Hello Creative Friends, welcome to this limited Summer newsletter. I’m Océane, I’m passionate about inspiring people to be creative and showing them the power of an easy prompt.
This is a 6-week newsletter for the curious minds. It’s super easy: one post a week with a simple prompt to spark creativity.
If you’re new to this publication, become a FREE subscriber by signing up to ensure you receive all of my posts.
I hope you managed to find time to daydream without guilt last week. I’d love to know what you learned from the process. I was really busy at work but managed a few lunch time walks in the sunshine. I put my phone on airplane mode and daydreamed about my Substack plans for the rest of the year.
If you’re playing catch-up, don’t worry! You can find the previous tasks below.
WEEK FOUR - CREATIVE ENVY
I think this week might be my favourite because it feels very personal, and if you’ve been wrestling with creative envy, I hope it helps you find some peace with it.
There is no shame in acknowledging that you’ve felt creative envy—it's a completely normal part of the creative process. In fact, I’d be more surprised if you hadn’t felt it at some point. It’s not something we often talk about because it can feel like a weakness, but it doesn’t have to be. While your first instinct might be to unfollow the person you’re envious of on social media or avoid their website, I’m going to suggest a different approach.
This week, I encourage you to dive into the work of the person you’re envious of. Explore their social media, website, Pinterest, read their essays, and really dig into what triggers your envy. Write it all down, make a list. How does it make you feel? Now, take it further. Make a list of things that don’t align with who you are and begin to embrace your own unique path.
A STEP FURTHER
Instead of letting creative envy linger, I want you to try something a little different: turn it into an opportunity for kindness. Reach out to the person whose work you’ve been admiring—leave a thoughtful comment on their post, send them a DM, or even write them an email. I’ll be doing the same, and together, we might just make someone's day.
I’d love to hear how it goes for you—leave me a comment.
See you next week for our penultimate week.
Océane xoxo
Love this idea, and it feels really serendipitous as just last week I sent a message to a writer on Substack whose book I recently finished (and loved!) and as a thank you for the feedback she offered a complimentary month paid membership! Totally unexpected, but what a lovely surprise ✨
Enjoying this summer series (even if I haven't got round to implementing all the wonderful ideas!) ☀️
